The publicly traded company Saif Powertec Limited has lent a hand to the family of Md Abul Bashar Molla, who died in the recent gas explosion in a Narayanganj mosque.

The company will donate Tk25,000 each month for next two years to the family so that it can overcome its financial hardship following its only bread winner’s demise, said a statement by Saif Powertec on Tuesday.

Tajia Begum, wife of the late Bashar Molla, received the first bank cheque from Saif Powertec Managing Director Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin at his sales office in the capital.

Company officials said a media report on the family’s need for financial support drew their notice and the company had therefore decided to help the dependants of the deceased.

Top officials of Saif Powertec, including Director Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif and Chief Financial Officer Md Hasan Reza, were present during the cheque handover session.

The engineering support and services company has emerged as a socially responsible corporate body in the last couple of years. In the wake of the pandemic this year it has extended its hand of support through its participation in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, donating oxygen cylinders or protective equipment to hospitals.

Besides, Saif Powertec  contributed Tk2crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund recently to help fight the virus.
